Polish castles, palaces and UNESCO sites - 10 days

Active sightseeing

 

During this trip we will discover 10 historic World Heritage UNESCO sites: Malbork Castle, Historic Downtown Areas (Warsaw, Krakow, Torun, Zamosc), Auschwitz-Birkenau, Pilgrimage Park in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, historic wooden church in Debno, Wieliczka Salt Mine and Millenium Hall in Wroclaw. We will have an opportunity to interact with wild nature in Poleski National Park, stroll through charming trails in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska. We will discover the Divine Mercy Sanctuary (Krakow Lagiewniki) and visit historic castles, palaces and many other tourist attractions. 

Day 1

Warsaw Tour includes: Old Town (UNESCO), the Royal Route Royal Castle, Column of Zygmunt, the Presidential Palace, Warsaw University and Lazienki Park - one of the most beautiful palace-cum-garden in Europe and finally the Palace of Culture and Science. Old Town is the oldest part of Warsaw and it’s located at the heart of the capital.  Founded in the thirteenth century, it was entirely rebuilt after World War II (as it was destroyed in 90% during the war). Palace of Culture and Science for many years have been considered to be the most controversial building in Warsaw. Built in 1955 as a gift from the Soviet Union to the Polish people, still remains the tallest building in the capital.

Day 2

Transfer to Malbork. 
We visit the largest Gothic fortress in Europe. (UNESCO). 
The Teutonic Knights began its construction in 1274, and in 1309 Grand Master Siegfried von Feuchtwangen decided to move the capital of the Teutonic Order from Venice to Malbork. Today Malbork Castle occupies over 20 hectares of land and three hours should be just right to explore most of it. The castle permanent exhibitions include objects made of amber, armours, medivial weapon and much more others archaeological findings.

 

Day 3

Gdańsk is believed to be one of the most beautiful Polish cities. The walking tour starts with the Old Town (Long St., Mary St., Beer St., Green Gate, Golden Gate, Town Hall Crane, Neptune's Fountain, Arthur's Court, St Mary's Church, then the gate of the Gdansk Shipyard and Three Crosses Square monument (where the Solidarity movement began).

Day 4

Transfer to Toruń, sightseeing
This historic medieval urban complex is one of the most beautiful and most valuable architectural sites in Europe (listed as UNESCO heritage site).
We visit such monuments like: Old Town Hall, and a Memorial House of Nicolaus Copernicus, the Leaning Tower, Granary, St. John's Cathedral (which from hangs Poland's largest medieval bell), Monastery Gate, St. Mary’s Church and the ruins of the Teutonic Knights Castle. At the end of the tour you can go for a shopping and buy some local gingerbread, which Torun is famous with.

Transfer to Wrocław

Day 5

Wrocław is one of the most interesting cities in Poland. The walking tour starts with the Market Square and the beautiful Town Hall located in it, then we see St. Mary Magdalne and St. Elizabeth churches, the building of the University of Wroclaw. Next we cross Tumski Bridge in order to get to the Cathedral Island where we visit the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. During the tour we can came across Wroclaw dwarfs scattered all around the town (about 300).
In the evening we see the Centennial Hall, Japanese Garden and beautifully illuminated fountain at the Pergola square.

Day 6

Breakfast, exploration of Wroclaw and transfer to Auschwitz.

Auschwitz - Birkenau was the largest Nazi concentration camp during World War II and the place of death about 1.5 million people from 28 countries (including around 1 million Jews). 

Wadowice - birthplace of Karol Wojtyla, better known as the pope John Paul II.
Kalwaria Zebrzydowska - one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Poland.

Day 7

Kraków - We visit Old Town with the most important monuments of Cracow: Square with Cloth Hall and St. Mary's Basilica, Florian's Gate, Barbican, Bishop's Palace, Jagiellonian University building, (one of the oldest in Europe), the Franciscan church, University Church of St. Anna and many other sights.

We visit the Wawel Hill with the Royal Castle and the Cathedral. It is the most historically and culturally in Poland. The castle was for centuries seat of Polish kings, now became one of the most visited museums. In the basement of the Wawel Cathedral are the Royal Tombs - resting place of kings, princes and national heroes.Kazimierz - now a district of Krakow, is one of the most important tourist attractions, for many centuries it’s been a place of coexistence  Jewish and Christian. We walk through the neighborhood, a remnant of the Jews living there are synagogues (Old, Remuh, High, Popper, Kupa, Isaac).

Day 8

Wieliczka Salt Mine - a solid rock salt dug more than 2,000 chambers, many of them are beautifully decorated, the most impressive Chapel. Kingi. The tourist route is 3.5 km, and the visiting time 3 hours. Mine entered on the UNESCO list.

We visit the John Paul II Center "Be not afraid", richly decorated with mosaics by father Marko Rupnik and located next to the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy.

Day 9 
We travel to Lancut and visit magnificent castle, which is one of the most beautiful magnate residencies in Poland, we relax in the surrounding English Park. 
Zamosc - masterpiece of renaissance architecture, this city was established by a powerful magnate Jan Zamojski, which constructed the town based on treaties describing an ideal city. 
We visit the Main Square, Town Hall, renaissance tenements, cathedral, Salt Square, former Jewish district, synagoge and city walls. 

Day 10 
We visit the Poleski National Park- includes peatlands, swamps, karst lakes and natural forests with abundant flora and fauna. The Park symbol is the majestic Crane. There are 21 fish species, 13 amphibians species, 7 reptile species including a rare European pond turtle, and 48 mammal species. This National Park contains most abundant birdlife in the country, about 200 different bird species reside here. 
Kozlowka Palace - 18th century Zamojski Family Palace with authentic decorated interiors and situated in a large and beautiful park. We will find the social realism art gallery with over 1500 exhibits from social era in Poland. 
Kazimierz Dolny - situated in the middle section of Vistula River, very picturesque town, which is especially familiar among artists. We will visit the historic granaries, main square, magnificent renaissance tenements, John the Baptist and Bartholomew Church, and castle with one of its towers which provides wonderful views.  
We return to Warsaw for accomodation.
